Never Tell Me The Odds!

We’ve all heard the statistics before.  But, if you are like me and Han Solo, you probably don’t want to constantly hear these odds.  I want to believe that with hard work, the right coaching, playing on a travel team and of course constant “encouragement” by me, Zach can make all his dreams come true and be a professional baseball player.

According to the odds, it is extremely unlikely that any of our little ball players will make it the big leagues.  Maybe I should write these odds on my palm before I enter the park.

  1. Less than 1 out every 15 kids playing little league and youth baseball ever make their high school baseball’s varsity team.
  2. Less than three in 50, or about 5.6 percent, of high school senior boys interscholastic baseball players will go on to play men’s baseball at a NCAA member institution.
  3. Less than eleven in 100, or about 10.5 percent, of NCAA senior male baseball players will get drafted by a Major League Baseball (MLB) team.
  4. Less than 1 out of every 15,000 little league or youth baseball players ever make a MLB baseball team.
If this is the case, I hope that I can encourage Zachary to enjoy his baseball days, however short or long they may be.
