NCAA Rejects CSUSM Application for Membership

CAL STATE SAN MARCOS: Cougars regroup after NCAA rejects application for membership

Speaking of the NAIA, unfortunately CSUSM will not be joining the NCAA next year.  It appears that Cal State San Marcos is on the path to joining the NCAA which will provide much needed benefits for the athletic programs.  Hopefully it is just a matter of time before the NCAA accepts the school .  It will be nice to have a Division II or III baseball program right in our backyard.  There is plenty of talent in the area to support the program and I look forward to the growth of CSUSM baseball.

Cal State San Marcos athletic director Jennifer Milo operates her program like an NCAA school.

The Cougars have sports in all three seasons. Next year they’ll award roughly $600,000 in scholarships. They have a compliance officer to police for rules violations.

But the Cougars won’t be joining the NCAA as soon as they hoped. Cal State San Marcos’ application for membership was rejected late last week, a devastating blow for a school that has expanded its program in recent years in anticipation of gaining NCAA Division II status.
